Distribution Mergers Hit All-time High Last Year

THE NUMBER of merger and acquisition (M&A) deals in the distribution market broke the record last year. "Deals totalled over $5bn (£3.9bn), which is quite remarkable for the sector," said Marc Fermont, senior partner at DistriConsult. He noted that there was a globalisation trend in 2006 with some overseas deals and a larger number of cross-continent deals: "An interesting new development is the acquisition of Dutch distributor Bax by Israel's Gadot Chemical Tankers and Terminals, and Oxyde by the Noble Group of Singapore.
